Without which your evening tea is incomplete. Without which a glass of milk was not gulped down in childhood. Be it a child or an elderly, whenever biscuits are talked about, only one name comes to mind, Parle G. The same 5 rupee Parle G, which resides in every heart. Whether rich or poor, you will find Parle G in every house. But these days Parle G is creating a ruckus in the Parliament. Even in the Lok Sabha elections, the leaders got a lot of applause by using Parle G as a weapon. The government and the opposition have been criticizing each other in its name.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav made this biscuit famous the most. Even today in the Parliament, Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government by taking the name of Parle G. To target the government on inflation, he again resorted to biscuits. Let us understand what lesson Akhilesh Yadav is trying to teach on the pretext of this biscuit.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Parle-G attack in Parliament
Akhilesh Yadav said in Lok Sabha that the Modi government at the Centre has learnt only one thing from Parle-G biscuits – inflation and profit. This government has reduced the size of DAP sack and fertilizer sack in 10 years. He compared inflation and profit with Parle-G.
The price has been increased by Rs 1 in 30 years
The price of Parle G is its biggest strength. The company has increased the price of biscuits by just one rupee only once in the last 30 years. In the year 2021, the company increased the price of a small pack of Parle G from Rs 4 to Rs 5. Even today, a small pack of Parle G is available for Rs 5 only. Parle G not only beat inflation but also made profits, but for this they came up with an amazing technique.
Parle-G’s price did not increase, but biscuits became less, profit even in inflation!
Parle G did not increase the price of biscuits to beat the rising inflation, but definitely reduced its weight. Earlier the small pack of Parle G used to be of 100 grams, but later it was reduced to 92 grams. After this, the company secretly reduced its weight to 88 grams. In the year 2021, the price of biscuits was increased from Rs 4 to Rs 5 and its weight was reduced to 55 grams. That is, from 1994 till now, the Parle G of Rs 100 has reduced to 55 grams. The weight of the biscuit was reduced by 45 percent. Instead of increasing the price, the company increased the price of the biscuits.
Understand the game of inflation in the name of biscuits
Parle G read the mind of the people of India correctly. To cope with the rising prices of commodities, increasing compliance costs like branding, packaging, the company started reducing the weight of biscuits instead of increasing the price. From 1994 to 2021, the company did not increase the price of biscuits. There was no increase in price for 30 years. If the price was increased, people would have felt the inflation directly, so they made a profit by reducing the weight instead of the price. Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the government regarding this strategy of Parle G. He said that the prices of fertilizer bags are not increasing, but they are getting smaller.
Profit of Parle G
For the company’s profit, instead of increasing the price, it was decided to reduce the weight. The company which was founded by a tailor in 1929, has today become the world’s largest selling company of knitwear. The value of the company has reached 17223 crores. According to Forbes 2022 data, the net worth of Vijay Chauhan and his family is 5.5 billion US dollars i.e. Rs 45,579 crores.
