Which was the most difficult day as coach? Dravid reveals bitter secret

Team India: Screaming Rahul Dravid. Angry Rahul Dravid. Overexcited Rahul Dravid. It is difficult to even think about these three situations. Any cricket fan would have seen Dravid like this two or three times at most. One of them would be during the recent T20 World Cup, where he was screaming with all his might with his eyes closed and the T20 World Cup trophy in his hand. Rahul Dravid recently spoke openly about that celebration of his and jokingly said something special for his son as well.

Dravid spoke openly on the celebration of T20 World Cup victory

Rahul Dravid told Star Sports, ‘We have been coming close to the big trophy many times for some time now. We reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup, we played the final of the World Test Championship and we were also in the final of the ODI World Cup, but our team was not able to cross the last line to get the trophy.

I worked hard for two and a half years

Rahul Dravid said, ‘However, after winning the T20 World Cup, I was feeling very good for my team and for everyone who has worked hard for the last two and a half years. That is why I was celebrating like that. Overall, relief and happiness were coming out. However, one thing is that I have to be a little cautious about celebrating like that. My son must be looking at me and thinking, ‘I don’t know what my father is doing’ (laughs).’

Dravid took over coaching in the year 2021

Rahul Dravid took over as the coach in November 2021. His first foreign tour was to a country where India had never won a Test series. When Dravid was asked what was the most difficult time for him as the coach of the Indian team, he talked about his first South African tour.

The most difficult day as the coach of Team India

Rahul Dravid said, ‘The South Africa tour was a very difficult tour for us. We had won the first Test in Centurion on that tour. We all knew that we had never won a Test series in South Africa. It was a big opportunity for us. However, one thing is that many senior players were not present in our team then. Rohit Sharma was out of the team due to injury. Some other senior players were also not in the team.’

Rahul Dravid made a shocking revelation

Rahul Dravid said, ‘The remaining two test matches were very close. We had a big chance in the third innings of both the test matches. However, the South African team played much better then and they chased well in the fourth innings. I would say that these were the most difficult days for me while being the coach of the Indian team.’

Learned a lot about the game

Rahul Dravid said, ‘However, I got to learn a lot from there. There we learned a lot about our game and also learned what things we need to work on. Overall, it can be said that as a coach you will not always see the same days. There will be ups and downs. You need to understand that you are not always going to win. The rest of the teams have also come to play and you are facing world class teams.’

We need to understand the balance between winning and losing

Rahul Dravid said, ‘You have to understand the balance between winning and losing. You do not always have the option to win, but you definitely have the option to always prepare well. You also have the option to choose the right team, but despite all these things, you can still lose and you have to understand that balance.’ Dravid was also asked how he was successful in uniting all the senior and superstar players in the Indian team? So he said that he cannot take full credit for this and a lot of credit also goes to Rohit Sharma.
