Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Arrested : Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of the Telegram messaging app, was arrested at Bourget Airport near Paris on Saturday evening. Billionaire Durov was traveling to Azerbaijan in his private jet. His arrest was reported by TF1 TV and BFM TV, citing unnamed sources.
According to media reports, Pavel Durov has been arrested following an arrest warrant as part of a police investigation. The case was related to the lack of moderation on Telegram. It is alleged that the lack of moderation allowed criminal activities to continue unhindered on the Telegram app. There has been no response from Telegram or the French Home Ministry and police in this case so far.
Let us tell you that Telegram is one of the major social media platforms that has influence in Russia, Ukraine and former Soviet countries. Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, Telegram has been the most prominent platform for ‘unfiltered content’ from both sides regarding the politics surrounding the war.
Dubai-based Telegram was founded by Russian-born Durov. He left Russia in 2014 after the Russian government refused to accept Durov’s demand to suppress the voice of opposition communities on his VK social media platform. Currently, Durov has sold VK social media.
