The SEBI Chairperson has issued a statement in her personal capacity on the allegations made by the Congress and Hinzenberg. She denied the questions raised on her integrity and the ‘propaganda’ being run.

Buch said in a statement that the allegations made by the Congress are based on the details mentioned in the income tax returns filed by them. She said that all the information related to financial matters has been fully disclosed by them and taxes have also been paid properly. The SEBI chief said in her statement, the details related to our income tax returns have clearly been obtained through fraudulent means and illegally.

The SEBI chief said that this is not only a clear violation of our right to privacy (which is a fundamental right) but also a violation of the Income Tax Act. The main opposition party Congress has recently made several allegations against the SEBI chief and her husband, including a conflict of interest related to a consulting company related to them.
Congress’s allegations against SEBI chairperson
The Congress had alleged that Dhawal Buch earned Rs 4.78 crore from Mahindra Group at a time when SEBI was investigating that company for violating the rules. The statement said that Madhabi Puri Buch never dealt with any file related to Agora Advisory, Agora Partners, Mahindra Group, Pidilite, Dr Reddy’s, Alvarez & Marsal, Sembcorp, Visu Leasing or ICICI Bank at any level after joining SEBI. Buch said in the statement that these allegations are completely false, malicious and defamatory. Madhabi has complied with all the disclosure and disclaimer guidelines of SEBI. In fact, he has constantly kept himself away from the cases other than the provisions required under the guidelines.
