Russia Ukraine war: India ready to help restore peace

New Delhi: India said on Friday that it is ready to play a constructive role in restoring peace between Russia and Ukraine, although it is the prerogative of the two warring countries to decide when and how to start peace talks. This comment came at a time when PM Modi has recently returned from his Ukraine visit.

Addressing a briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The decision of when and how to start peace talks is the prerogative of both the parties involved in the conflict. As friends and partners, we will support any viable and mutually acceptable solution or format that can restore peace…”

PM Modi has already given indications
According to news ANI, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already indicated India’s willingness to play a constructive role in the interest of peace. However, it is too early to comment on specific modalities and paths at this stage.

According to media reports, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Moscow in July and to Kyiv last week, there has been widespread speculation in diplomatic circles about India’s possible role in mediating between Russia and Ukraine.

Issue of Indians stranded in Russian Army
Replying to a question on Indians stranded in Russian Army, he said that 15 Indians stranded in Russia have been released and have returned to India.

Jaiswal said, ‘As per the information we have so far, till date 15 Indians have been released and have returned to India. Our mission, our embassy is in touch with the Russian authorities and we hope that those who want to return to India will be released soon.’
