Wayanad. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi addressed a street meeting in Engapuzha, Wayanad. During this, she said, know the history of Wayanad well. The people of Wayanad have always stood up for what is right. In many ways, you embody everything that is good about our country. You have a rich history, you have fought against the British and have constantly lived in harmony like brothers and sisters.
This reflects the teachings of gurus of all religions and the values that guided our freedom movement. When India gained independence, it was built on the principles of love, truth, equality, justice and secularism – which is the basic foundation of our Constitution. Even decades later, our fight continues to maintain these values.
Priyanka Gandhi said, In the last ten years, we have seen a complete neglect of the people. It appears that PM Modi’s policies only benefit his big business friends, not the average citizen. There is no mercy for farmers, who were promised a minimum support price (MSP) but never got it. Adivasis are being attacked across the country, their lands are being handed over to big businessmen. Unemployment is at its peak and there is no sign of a medical college despite promises. The complex GST system is also hurting small businesses.
Along with this, she said, wherever I went in Wayanad, I got love and affection and I am grateful that you accepted me like a member of your family. I know that this is because of your relationship with my brother Rahul Gandhi ji and the support you gave him in his most difficult times. The BJP tried to create a false image of him using all its resources. They removed his membership from Parliament, took away his house and defamed him publicly but he did not back down. He fought for the truth like a true warrior.
I am very proud of my brother the way he has fought for you and for the truth, although I feared for his safety. I am also proud of the people of Wayanad, because it is from you that he got the strength and courage to fight. My entire family is grateful for the way you have supported him and the strength you have given him.
