Babar Azam may be removed from captaincy : The performance of the Pakistan cricket team has been quite disappointing for the past few years, on one hand the batsmen are not scoring runs, on the other hand the bowlers are also getting beaten badly. The captain was also changed to improve the performance of the team, but there was no significant difference in the performance.
Amidst all this, there have been reports of discord among the players of the team. Meanwhile, there is news that the Pakistan Cricket Board is once again going to remove Babar Azam from the captaincy of the limited overs format.
In fact, Babar Azam was stripped of the captaincy after his poor performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, after which Shaheen Shah Afridi was made the captain of the limited overs format for a few months. But Afridi also failed to make his mark and the PCB surprised everyone by giving the captaincy back to Babar Azam.
However, the team’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 was very poor and it had to be knocked out in the first round. Apart from this, Babar Azam is struggling with poor form. At the same time, there is now speculation that Babar Azam may be removed from the captaincy again. A player close to him is being considered the strongest contender to become the new captain.
Babar Azam is not the captain in Champions ODI Cup
The indication of removing Babar Azam from captaincy is being given by PCB’s decision regarding the Champions ODI Cup. Four teams are participating in this domestic tournament and many senior players including Babar Azam will also be a part of this tournament. But, Babar has not been given the captaincy of any team. It is believed that the captain who is seen as better by PCB in the tournament is likely to be given the captaincy.
The captains appointed by PCB for the Champions One Day Cup include Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Haris. Shaheen is already out of the race for the new captain of Pakistan because he has already got a chance and he failed. After which Rizwan, Shadab and Harris are left, out of which Rizwan is the biggest contender.
