Jammu-Kashmir Assembly session : The assembly session in Jammu and Kashmir has started with a lot of uproar. On the first day of the current session i.e. on November 4, PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para presented a proposal in the House regarding the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and the removal of Article 370. Which was strongly opposed by the BJP MLAs.
Amidst the uproar in the House, CM Omar Abdullah reacted to the proposal presented by PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para. CM Omar Abdullah said, ‘We knew that this was being prepared by a member. The reality is that the people of Jammu and Kashmir do not accept the decision taken on 5 August 2019, if it had been accepted, the results would have been different today.’
The Jammu and Kashmir CM further said, ‘How the House will consider and discuss this will not be decided by any one member. The proposal brought today has no importance but it is only for the cameras. If there was any motive behind it, they would have discussed it with us beforehand.’ Earlier, senior National Conference leader and MLA Abdul Rahim Rather was elected Speaker.
CM Omar Abdullah and Protem Speaker Mubarak Gul congratulated the new Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on being elected as the Speaker. Let us tell you that 80-year-old Abdul Rahim Rather has been an MLA seven times from Charar-e-Sharif seat of Budgam district. Rather won this seat continuously from 1977 to 2014.
However, he lost the election to PDP candidate Ghulam Nabi Lone in the year 2014. Now after 10 years, in the assembly elections held in 2024, Rather has made a comeback by defeating Ghulam Nabi Lone.
