ICC announces new venue for T20 World Cup

The violence that erupted in Bangladesh has had a deep impact on the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The hosting of this tournament was in the hands of Bangladesh. But now due to the violence, the ICC has announced the new venue of the tournament. Bangladesh had asked for 5 days a few days ago. But even after this things have not gone in favor of Bangladesh. Now this tournament will be organized in UAE.

Bangladesh will have the right to host

For some time now, the situation in Bangladesh was looking very bad. Due to which even the Prime Minister had to leave the country. This is the reason why now this tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates and not Bangladesh. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will retain the right to host the event. But the operations will be done in the UAE. The Bangladesh Cricket Board tried everything possible to get the hosting of the tournament, but now the ICC has announced the new venue.

BCCI had refused

BCCI had refused ICC for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI had refused to host due to weather concerns. Hosting two World Cups in a year was also a reason. India has hosted the Women’s ODI World Cup. After which ICC had limited options left. In the end, ICC has chosen UAE.

Official statement from ICC

ICC Chief Executive Officer Geoff Allardice said in his statement about the new venue, ‘It is very disappointing not to be able to host this tournament in Bangladesh. BCB had made all the necessary preparations for this event. But, the governments of many participating teams expressed concern about going to Bangladesh, due to which it was not possible. However, BCB has retained its hosting rights and the tournament will be held from 3 to 20 October in Dubai and Sharjah, UAE.’
