Friendship Day started in Paraguay in 1958. This is how Friendship Day started. However, later the date of this day changed and it started being celebrated on the first Sunday of August. There is an interesting story behind this too. It is said that the Hallmark Card Company promoted this day so that people could send cards to friends. Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, advocated giving a special day to friendship.

Winnie the Pooh
In 1998, the United Nations declared Winnie the Pooh as the ambassador of world friendship. After this, Friendship Day started gaining more importance. In 2011, the United Nations officially declared 30 July as International Friendship Day. Although Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August in India, there is no special history associated with this celebration.
