Google admits Iranian hackers target Trump and Harris’ campaigns

US Elections 2024: Google on Tuesday confirmed that Iran-backed hackers are targeting the campaigns of US presidential rivals Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

According to a report released by Google, a hacker group called ‘APT42’ linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted high-profile individuals and organisations, including government officials and political campaigns in Israel and the United States.

Let us tell you that the campaign team of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said on Tuesday that the campaign was targeted by foreign hackers. At the same time, the campaign team of Republican candidate Dwight Donald Trump accused Iran of hacking.

A Harris campaign official told AFP, “In July, the campaign’s legal and security teams were informed by the FBI that we were the target of a foreign cyber attack.” He said that we have strong cyber security measures so we are not aware of any security breach of our systems.

What else did Google’s team say?
The report says that Google’s team is seeing unsuccessful attempts of cyber attack by APT42 on the personal accounts of President Joe Biden, Vice President Harris and people associated with Trump.

Earlier on Monday, the US State Department had warned Iran to face consequences for interfering in the elections. Let us tell you that the Trump campaign team had said that they had been attacked by cyber attack.
