For Sahara investors, Union Cooperative Minister Amit Shah told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that till July 16 this year, Rs 362.91 crore has been paid to more than 4.2 lakh investors of Sahara Group’s cooperative societies. Shah gave this information to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question. During this, he also told that this refund of about Rs 363 crore has been made to the investors through ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’.
The portal was started in July 2023
This portal was started in July 2023 after the order of the Supreme Court on March 29, 2023. That is, an amount of Rs 363 crore was refunded within a year. He said that the purpose of the portal is to help legitimate investors get their money. Shah said that at present, up to Rs 10,000 is being paid to every genuine depositor on certified claims through Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Many investors are still facing difficulty in proving themselves because some people’s Sahara-related documents have disappeared or some other problem has arisen with someone.
Rs 362.91 crore released
The Union Minister said that till July 16, 2024, Rs 362.91 crore has been released to 4,20,417 depositors of the cooperative societies of the Sahara Group. He emphasized that the applications received on the portal are being considered in a transparent manner on presenting proper identification and proof of deposit. Among the investors whose money is stuck in Sahara, the highest number is of people from states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh. After not getting their money back, the investors had demanded the government’s intervention in this entire matter. Currently, only the investors of four Sahara societies, Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Limited, Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Limited, Hamara India Credit Cooperative Society Limited and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited have the facility to apply.
