Fierce encounter on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, 12 Naxalites killed

Gadchiroli: A fierce encounter took place near the Chhattisgarh border in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district this afternoon, in which 12 Naxalites were killed and two policemen were injured. This encounter took place between C-60 commandos and Naxalites in Wandoli village of Gadchiroli.

Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced a reward of Rs 51 lakh for the C60 commando teams and Gadchiroli police.

The encounter lasted for more than 6 hoursĀ 

According to the information, the encounter started at around 2 pm and lasted for more than 6 hours. Both sides fired bullets at each other. 12 Naxalites were killed in this fierce encounter. Identification of Maoists and search of the area is going on. One of the killed Naxalites was identified as DVCM Laxman Atram alias Vishal Atram, in-charge of Tipagarh Dalam.

Seven weapons recovered

Two policemen were also injured in the encounter, who were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Seven weapons including 3 AK-47 rifles, 2 INSAS rifles, 1 carbine and 1 SLR have been recovered from the spot. The injured persons include a sub-inspector and a jawan of C 60. They are out of danger.

The Director General of Police has praised the bravery of the soldiers involved in this operation. This encounter is being considered a major success for the security forces in this area. At present, this encounter is being considered a major success for the security forces in this area.
