New Delhi. The order to write the names and mobile numbers of the owners on the shops on the Kanwar Yatra route in UP has been challenged in the Supreme Court. An NGO named Association for Protection of Civil Rights has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. In this, the Supreme Court was asked to cancel the order of the UP government.
An online petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Saturday, July 20 at 6 am, which was listed for hearing by the Supreme Court registry on the same day. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti will hear this petition on Monday, July 22 in the Supreme Court.
Let us tell you that all the hotels, dhabas and restaurants including thela (handcarts) located on the 240 km long Kanwar Yatra route in Muzaffarnagar district were ordered to print the names of their owners or the people working at these shops. A few days later on Friday, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to issue a similar order for the entire state.
Many parties, including prominent Muslim organization Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, have opposed this decision. Jamiat, while criticizing the order of the Yogi government, said on Saturday that this is a ‘discriminatory and communal’ decision and it violates the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution. Jamiat also says that its legal team will consider the legal aspects of this order.
