Maruti Suzuki Price Cut:  Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, has announced a price cut on some variants of the Alto K10 and S-Presso from September 2. “The price of the S-Presso LXI petrol has been reduced by ₹ 2,000 and the price of the Alto K10 VXI petrol has been reduced by ₹ 6,500,” Maruti said in an exchange filing.

Cars became cheaper after monthly sales report

According to Maruti Suzuki’s website, the ex-showroom price of the Alto K10 in Delhi starts at ₹ 3,99,000 while the S-Presso prices start at ₹ 4,26,500 (ex-showroom) in the capital. The announcement comes a day after the company released monthly sales data, according to which the company sold 4% fewer cars compared to August 2023, although total sales grew 1% on a monthly basis at 1.82 lakh units. According to the company data, total sales of S-Presso and Alto declined to 10,648 units in August 2024 from 12,209 units in August 2023.

Although the Alto and S-Presso fall under Maruti Suzuki’s ‘mini’ sub-category, it is worth noting that the company’s compact segment, which includes the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR, remained under pressure in the month of August.

While Maruti Suzuki’s utility vehicle sales grew 7% year-on-year, sales in the compact segment declined 20% year-on-year and 1% month-on-month. In the compact segment, the carmaker sold 58,051 vehicles in August 2024 as against 72,451 in August 2023.

Earlier on August 27, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava during the company’s 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) emphasised that the company is committed to its small car lineup and expects a revival of the segment by 2025-26.

Maruti Suzuki’s small car sales have been declining since the beginning of 2023. According to the latest data from the company, sales of its mini and compact segment vehicles declined by more than 13% in the April-August 2024 period as compared to the same period last year. Apart from this, sales of the utility vehicle segment have increased by 14% during the same period.
