Bahraich. A youth was shot dead in communal violence in UP’s Bahraich district. After this, violence broke out in many parts of Bahraich. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered late night against many people including the main accused Salman. According to sources, there are reports of 20 to 25 people being arrested. On the other hand, the Puja Committee remained adamant till late night that the accused should be arrested. Slogans demanding hanging of the accused kept echoing on the streets late night.
Late night protests and arson
There has been an uproar in the entire Bahraich district in protest against the Maharajganj incident. Protests and arson continued till late night. Meanwhile, the police and administration were seen on the back foot. After the strictness of the DGP, the Hardi police station in-charge and the Mahsi outpost in-charge were suspended late at night. The top officials also appeared shocked when the protest started all over the district simultaneously.
At Gaighat also, Puja committees stopped immersion of idols late on Sunday night. They also protested demanding action against DM and SP. A vehicle was set on fire near Steelganj Talab Market. The banners put up at Hospital Square were pulled down and set on fire.
Stone pelting on fire brigade
The fire brigade team that arrived to douse the fire was also pelted with stones. The employees somehow fled from there. The police chased away the protesters by brandishing lathis. DM Monika Rani also arrived at the spot late at night. Seeing her, people again started raising slogans against the police and the administration.
Slogans of Yogi Baba Zindabad were raised
Angry people also blocked the Nanpara-Lakhimpur highway at around 11:30 pm. Meanwhile, slogans of CM Yogi Zindabad were also raised amidst sloganeering against the DM-SP. Angry people kept demanding action against the negligent officers.
This is how the controversy started
On Sunday evening, during the idol immersion in Maharajganj town of Mahsi tehsil of Bahraich district, a dispute arose over the song being played on the DJ. In protest against the song, the youths of the other community abused and pelted stones from the roof. It is said that the idol of Maa Durga was broken due to stone pelting. Due to which the other community started protesting. It is alleged that during the protest, people of the other community caught a young man inside the house and shot him. Due to which Ram Gopal Mishra (24), a resident of Rehuva Mansoor, died. Rajan (28), who came to save him, also got seriously injured.
Not only this, about a dozen other people are said to be injured. Police and PAC of six police stations are deployed on the spot to control the situation. SP Vrinda Shukla and other top officials are camping in Maharajganj.
