Arvind Kejriwal gets big relief from SC; gets interim bail in ED arrest case

Delhi: Delhi’s liquor policy scam case has given a big relief to CM Arvind Kejriwal from the Supreme Court. The court has granted him interim bail in this case, but the ED arrest case has been handed over to a larger bench of the court. Now a bench of three judges will hear Kejriwal’s petition. The Chief Justice will appoint three judges in this case.

The bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna of the Supreme Court has referred the matter to a larger bench, deciding three questions in its decision. Kejriwal has challenged the order of the Delhi High Court, which upheld the summons issued to Kejriwal by the trial court in the scam case. The court said that Kejriwal cannot be directed to resign because of his arrest, it will be his own decision. The court also said that arrest cannot be allowed on the basis of mere interrogation.

Kejriwal has been granted interim bail as long as the matter remains pending before a larger bench. Now a three-member bench will hear the case of CM Kejriwal. However, Kejriwal will not be able to come out of jail at the moment. He is currently in CBI custody but he has got bail in the ED case. In such a situation, he will remain in jail for now.
