After J&K election results, the Lieutenant Governor may nominate these 5 people as MLAs!

Jammu and Kashmir: In the exit polls released after the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Congress and National Conference are seen getting the maximum 35-40 seats, but no one is expected to get an absolute majority. Meanwhile, the news of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha nominating 5 people for the assembly is in the headlines, who can prove to be kingmakers. In such a situation, Congress and National Conference are afraid of a big game.

In fact, after the removal of Section 370, under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019, the Lieutenant Governor can nominate 5 MLAs in the Assembly. This rule was brought for the representation of women, Kashmiri Pandits and PoK. It was amended in July 2023. In such a situation, if Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha appoints five people as MLAs after the election results, then the total number in the Assembly will become 95 and the majority figure will increase to 48.

Not only this, these nominated MLAs will get all the legislative powers and privileges along with the right to vote in the assembly. In such a situation, the National Conference and Congress fear that the five MLAs nominated by the Lieutenant Governor may give their support to the BJP. On this issue, National Conference spokesperson Imran Dar said, “The inclusion of Kashmiri migrants and PoK displaced people is being used as a way of addressing the unique issues of these communities, but the fact is that it will weaken the new government.

Congress national general secretary Sunil Sharma said, “The process of nomination of members should be left to the elected government, which has the mandate.” According to sources, the 5 members nominated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will include one woman, one refugee from PoK, 2 Kashmiri refugees and one other. 5-6 names have been sent for each category.

MLAs can nominate these people as Lieutenant Governor

The first name among the possible nominees nominated by the Lieutenant Governor is BJP Mahila Morcha President Sanjita Dogra, who is the granddaughter-in-law of Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, who was associated with the Jana Sangh movement. The second name is Sunil Sethi, a well-known lawyer of Jammu and Kashmir and BJP spokesperson. The third name is BJP’s Organization General Secretary in Jammu and Kashmir and Kashmiri Pandit Ashok Kaul. Apart from this, BJP worker and former president of Mahila Morcha Rajni Seth and Jammu and Kashmir BJP Secretary Dr. Farida can be nominated.
