The airline has not deposited the PF of any of its employees for about 2.5 years.
PF kept getting deducted from the salary of SpiceJet employees, but that money was not being deposited in EPFO. This has been revealed by EPFO in response to an RTI. According to this report, SpiceJet has stopped contributing to EPFO since 2022. The company was also sent notices and summons by EPFO several times in this regard, but no response was given by the company.
According to the RTI, SpiceJet last deposited the PF of 11,581 employees in January 2022. Since then, there have been continuous defaults from the airline. There has been no response from SpiceJet in this regard. SpiceJet airline is going through a difficult financial crisis. The company had recently stopped the salaries of the employees.
Aircraft leasing companies filed a case against SpiceJet. The companies do not want to extend the tenure of the planes leased to SpiceJet. SpiceJet’s troubles started increasing. On April 18, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) had issued a notice to the company in 3 separate bankruptcy petitions. The company is facing huge financial crises. At the same time, fingers have also been raised on the airline for poor maintenance.
