A new ‘Insert’ button is now being added to the Android version of Gmail for Gemini Assistant. This artificial intelligence (AI) feature was available in the web version of Gmail since last year, but it was not in the Android app till now. According to the report, this feature is now being rolled out to all Android devices. This update comes after adding Google Calendar support to Gemini Assistant in November 2024. It is worth noting that to use this feature, users will have to buy Gemini Advanced Subscription.
Gemini feature in Gmail’s Android app
Until now, users using Gemini in the Gmail Android app could use the AI chatbot to respond to emails, although Gemini’s suggested replies had to be manually added to the email draft. Users either copied text from the Gemini interface and pasted it into the email draft or typed the reply themselves. In both cases, the process was a bit tedious and this led to low usage of the reply suggestion feature.
This issue was not present in the web version of Gmail, where users have had the ‘Insert’ button since last year, but now, Android Authority reports, the ‘Insert’ button is finally being added to the Gmail Android app as well. This update has been included in the Android version 2025.01.05.715468168 of Gmail.
The new ‘Insert’ tool is part of the ‘Suggest Replies’ feature of Gemini Assistant. This AI platform developed by Google can summarize emails, find information from old emails, and also add events to Google Calendar. This integration with Google Calendar was rolled out late last year.
