Some of EU’s top officials have encouraged both parties to honor the truce in Gaza, which they have amicably reached. Such commentators include Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, who proclaimed on her X account, “This has brought a ray of hope to the entire region, where people have suffered enormously for a long time.”
“Both sides have agreed to the pact, working towards peace in the region and solving the existing problems with diplomacy. It is a great step forward,” he mentioned.
Kaja Kallas, EU Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of I recently noted: “This is immensely pleasant news and signifies a real acquisition towards ameliorating the need for violence”.
According to Qatar, Israel and Hamas have negotiated a ceasefire agreement regarding hostages held in Gaza which was finalized on Wednesday. As per the agreement, it is anticipated that Hamas would handover 33 hostages in the first phase that is set to last for six weeks in exchange for the handover of Palestinian prisoners. This final deal is expected to go into effect from January 19, Sunday. The subsequent phases will be elaborated after the completion of the first phase. Mediators from US and Qatar have reported that Hamas and Israel have reached a truce which would halt the ongoing conflict and the hostages are to be handed over including the ones from am Israeli root.
Qatar has also assisted in brokering a final deal through the US which ensures an end to all hostilities in the region and promotes the return of hostages taken by Israel or Palestinian.
