Gaza ceasefire talks: Qatar says Gaza ceasefire talks in ‘final stage’

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Majid Al Ansari confirmed on Tuesday that the high-level Gaza ceasefire talks underway in Doha have reached an advanced stage. Ansari said, “I can confirm that we are having high-level talks in Doha as we speak. We believe we are in an evolving phase, possibly even the final stages.

However, until there is an official announcement, we should temper our excitement. Nevertheless, we are hopeful,” the spokesman said at a weekly media briefing. He stressed that the implementation of the ceasefire would happen “immediately” once an agreement is reached. “We do not have a specific time frame, but efforts are ongoing to finalise the agreement,” he added.

“Qatar reiterates its position that Gaza must be governed by the people of Gaza. We remain open to all viable options that ensure a suitable and sustainable solution for the Palestinians,” the report said. The draft agreement under discussion outlines a three-phase plan, Israel’s state-owned Kan TV reported. The first phase involves a 42-day ceasefire during which 33 hostages – women, children, the elderly and those with health problems – will be released.
