Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said that more than four lakh solar units have been installed on rooftops across the country under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Joshi said this at a program organized to give information about the seventh International Solar Alliance (ISA) conference to be held in Delhi from 3 to 6 November.
He said in the program, ‘India is establishing itself as a major entity in global efforts to tackle climate change. We are also working together to achieve our energy goals. In fact, only last week the number of solar units on rooftops under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme reached four lakh.
Approx One crore people will get benefit of the scheme
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this scheme in February. Its goal is to illuminate one crore houses by providing free electricity up to 300 units every month through solar equipment on rooftops. Joshi said in July that more than 1.28 crore registrations have been done under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. The government will take steps to achieve the target of installing solar equipment on the roof for one crore beneficiaries as soon as possible. He said that about 17.44 gigawatt solar photovoltaic capacity has been added between January and September this year. According to the data, till September, the installed capacity of power generation in the country was 452.69 gigawatt. The share of renewable energy in this was 201.46 gigawatt.
