BCCI preparing for big changes in IPL 2025

IPL 2025 Rules:  BCCI has started preparations for IPL 2025. Rules regarding retention will be revealed soon. BCCI is currently deliberating on two important rules of domestic and IPL season. Mega auction is to be held at the end of this year before IPL 2025. These days two rules are being discussed the most in BCCI. There is talk of changes in two bouncers in an over and impact player rule.

Decision not taken yet

The BCCI is yet to decide whether to retain the two bouncer rule in domestic T20 and IPL. It is being reconsidered. According to a report by Cricbuzz, these rules are specifically for the Men’s T20 Inter-State Competition, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT). The two-bouncer rule was introduced in domestic cricket and then in IPL last season, allowing bowlers to effectively use a second bouncer in an over.

BCCI’s rule is different from ICC’s

Two bouncers in an over is against ICC rules. Only 1 bouncer is allowed in international cricket. The BCCI is currently reviewing this rule. The decision to include or not include these rules in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will affect their continuity in the IPL. The BCCI’s delay in sharing the rules for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been a persistent problem. The board had assured that the rules would be released soon but this has not happened. The BCCI had said in a message sent to the state units on August 5 that the rules of the Men’s T20 match would be shared soon. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will start in November.

Zaheer Khan likes the impact player rule

As far as the impact player rule is concerned, it remains a controversial topic among fans and cricket experts. Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan recently supported this rule. Zaheer has become the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. He said, “There has been a lot of debate about the impact player rule. I am saying on record that I am with this rule. It has definitely given opportunities to a lot of uncapped Indian talents.”

Zaheer told the reason

Zaheer said, “As far as all-rounders are concerned, right now there is no place for a half all-rounder because of the impact player. But if you are a real all-rounder, no one can stop you.” BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently said that a final decision would be taken soon regarding the rules.
