Release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency banned!

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has assured Sikh community leaders that the state government will consider banning the release of Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film “Emergency” pending legal consultations, government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir said.

A delegation of Telangana Sikh Society led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon met Shabbir at the Secretariat here and requested a ban on the screening of “Emergency”. Shabbir said in a release on Thursday that the 18-member delegation submitted a representation expressing deep concern over the portrayal of the Sikh community.

The delegation alleged that the film depicted Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals, which was an “offensive” portrayal and damaging to the image of the community, the release said. Shabbir urged the chief minister to consider banning the film in Telangana. Shabbir, who met Reddy, said the chief minister said a decision on the issue would be taken after seeking legal advice.
