Wrestler Vinesh Phogat: Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who returned to India after the Paris Olympics, was honored with a gold medal in her native village Balali in Haryana. Thousands of people gathered to get a glimpse of Vinesh. On the grand welcome, Vinesh said, “So what if they (Olympics) did not give us a gold medal. Our own people have given us more than gold. Thousands of gold medals… pale in comparison to this honor and respect.”
In Paris, Vinesh became the first Indian woman wrestler to make it to an Olympic final. She was disqualified from the 50kg gold medal bout after she was found to be 100 grams overweight.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was warmly welcomed in her village Balali, Imlota village of Bhiwani, Jhajjar city when she returned home after the Paris Olympics. People in Balali village said for her ‘Mhari chhori kharara sona sai’. The people there gave Vinesh cash as a reward, put a turban on her and also gave her a sword in honour.
