The fear of mosquitoes is over, Dengue vaccine will be available soon!

Dengue Vaccine Phase 3 Clinical Trials Started In India: Dengue fever outbreak is seen every year during the rainy season, many people lose their lives due to this. However, now there is news of relief. It is being told that the dengue vaccine may come soon. The first clinical trial of the third phase has started. Its first vaccine has been tested by administering it to a person at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak (PGIMS Rohtak).

Testing of ‘Dengiol’ vaccine will be expanded

Apart from this, this vaccine test will be done at 19 places in 18 states and union territories. 10335 healthy youth have been included for the test. ICMR and Panacea Biotec have started the third phase clinical trial for the first time to develop a dengue vaccine in India. The Central Health Ministry gave this information on Wednesday. Panacea Biotec has developed India’s indigenous tetravalent dengue vaccine ‘DengiAll’.

How will the vaccine work?

Panacea’s vaccine uses live, weakened versions of all four dengue serotypes. These weakened versions of the virus were developed at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the US – they removed parts of the genetic code of the DENV1, DENV3 and DENV4 strains and then genetically engineered the DENV2 backbone using parts of the weakened DENV 4, on which the others were grafted. These were grown in cell culture by Panacea Biotech to develop the vaccine.

Why is dengue vaccine needed?

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that is becoming more prevalent. Globally, the incidence of dengue has risen from 5,05,430 cases in 2000 to 5.2 million in 2019, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). In India, the disease has spread from just 8 states and union territories in 2001 to all states by 2022, the year the last bastion in Ladakh was breached. Another challenge is that 75-80 per cent of cases do not have clear symptoms.
