Pitru Paksha 2024: In Sanatan Dharma, Shradh and Tarpan etc. are performed for the peace of the soul of ancestors during Pitru Paksha. According to the Hindu calendar, Pitru Paksha is starting from 17th September this year and will continue till 2nd October. The act of offering water mixed with black sesame seeds and Akshat to satisfy the ancestors is called Tarpan. Black sesame seeds and Kusha are very important in Tarpan. Sesame seeds and Kusha are of utmost importance in Shradh. It is believed that by offering Pinddaan with black sesame seeds during Tarpan, the deceased attains Vaikuntha.
In the religious scriptures, it is said that it is necessary to follow some essential rules during the Pitru Paksha for the peace of the souls of the ancestors.
To follow the rules of this, the use of certain food items has been prohibited in the scriptures during this period. Garlic, onion, alcohol, cigarettes and spicy food should be avoided during Pitru Paksha. You should avoid eating non-vegetarian food during the 15-day period of Pitru Paksha.
