Discussion continues in Lok Sabha amid uproar over Waqf Board Amendment Bill

Parliament Session: There was a lot of uproar in the Parliament today too. Especially on Thursday there was a lot of uproar on the matter of Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification. In the Rajya Sabha, the matter escalated so much that seeing the uproar, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar had to get up from his chair with a heavy heart.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar targeted Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien and asked him to behave according to the rules of the House. Jagdeep Dhankhar, who looked angry, shouted loudly and said, ‘I am being insulted every day in the House. How dare you shout at the Chair?’

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on the Waqf Bill in the Lok Sabha: There is no interference in religious freedom and no article of the Constitution has been violated. The bill has been brought to give rights to common Muslims. The Constitution will not be violated by the bill. Because a few people have occupied the Waqf.

Amid the uproar over the bill in the Lok Sabha, DMK MP Kanimozhi said, this bill is not only against the Constitution, but also against federalism and religious minorities. Kanimozhi asked whether it is possible for Muslims or Christians to be a part of the board managing a Hindu temple. She said, then why should a person who does not believe in a particular religion have the right to take decisions on behalf of that religion.

Waqf bill update: 

SP MP Mohibullah asked that if other religions are allowed to have their representatives in their respective statutory bodies, why not Muslims? If this bill is passed, it will be a huge mistake and we will have to pay the price for it for centuries to come.

Supriya Sule on Waqf Bill Latest: Supriya Sule raised questions about the bill coming in the media

Baramati MP Supriya Sule said that the sad thing is that we came to know about this bill not from Parliament but from the media. Supriya Sule questioned, is this the new way of working of the government? This office is the temple of democracy and we take our work seriously. Please inform us before selectively leaking [the bill] to the media. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju refuted Sule’s allegations and said that it was circulated in Parliament. Sule said that it was in the media earlier. Speaker Om Birla said that the bill has been circulated to all MPs, but opposition members are opposing it.
