New SIM card rules, Government becomes strict!

New sim card rules 2024 : The government has changed the rules for buying mobile SIM cards. Now a new rule has been made for Indian citizens. To get a new SIM card, it has now become necessary to do e-KYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification. Without e-KYC verification, no one will be able to get a new mobile number.

Why was this rule introduced?

E-KYC is a digital method through which a person’s identity and address are verified electronically. SIM card will not be available without e-KYC verification. The government has taken this necessary step to prevent cyber fraud and misuse of SIM cards. This will prevent people from buying SIM cards in someone else’s name and misuse that number.

Buying SIM cards has become easier for foreign nationals

The new rule is meant to make it easier for foreign nationals to buy SIM cards in India. Earlier, foreigners needed an OTP from a local number to buy an Airtel, Jio or Vi SIM card.

As per the new rule, they can now receive their OTP on their email. This means they no longer need a local number to buy a SIM card and can use their email to make the purchase.
